Natural Remedies for Dandruff

Do they work and how do they work?

I am a dandruff sufferer and I use Head & Shoulders religiously, I am a massive proponent of the brand, so much that they contacted me and asked me to talk about their products in the context of head and shoulders vs. natural remedies for dandruff. You would think that nature has a cure for dandruff and it seems that yes some of these products do actually help with dandruff but are actually not great as everyday products. Dandruff reoccurs and proper preventative usage requires anti-dandruff product applicaiton every two days. Can you imagine rubbing coconut oil on your scalp every two days? sure you use it in the shower but how long do you need to rinse for? there is a convenient list of articles that explain the benefits of headandshoulders over some of the more touted natural remedies:

Coconut Oil
Lemon Juice
Olive Oil
Baking Soda
Apple Cider Vinegar

What are the causes of dandruff and how do natural remedies work?

Malasezia Fungus

Above: Malasezia fungus

Dandruff is caused by a yeast fungus called malasezia, the propagation of this fungus is one of the primary causes of dandruff, elimination of this fungus removes one of the highest causes of dandruff. Some of the remedies do in fact kill the fungus but at a cost to your scalp. Head & Shoulders eliminates the fungus while being safe for your scalp, some of the remedies could actually be creating a more prosperous environment for the fungus, coconut oil I am looking at you. Dont always believe what you read on natural solution websites, it simply is not true.

Dandruff for Life...

It is impossible to "cure" dandruff as the fungus that causes it lives on every human head, some people are not susceptible to it, if you are - you will have it forever - your solution is to control it with an everyday shampoo that is quick and effective. My choice is Head & Shoulders
